The Twilight Turns... (2010)

Chris Capone - Tenor

Score (PDF): viewable, not printable

This was the first piece I wrote back at Rutgers. I took a poem by James Joyce from his Chamber Music collection and set it for solo Tenor and Piano. I chose the poem simply titled II, by Joyce, because of the rich imagery he uses and his vivid use of color when describing things. The piece has a flow to it and in a way it meanders from moment to moment. It's passionate, yet melancholy, and is ambiguous in tonality up until the very last note in the tenor. This piece was premiered by my cousin Christopher Capone in Schare Recital Hall at Mason Gross School of the Arts.
