Concertino for Euphonium & Concert Band (2014)

Score (PDF): viewable, not printable

I started this piece in June 2013 for a senior at where I teach. She's a phenomenal Euphonium player and I had to feature her with my Concert Band. I had intended to write a piece for my group so I figured I could kill two birds with one stone by writing a short Concertino for her and the band. Her private teacher was all for the idea and was a great help throughout the writing process.

The piece is a simple slow then fast form with the Euphonium playing against the band for most of the piece. Once the fast section sets in the band gets more and more present and starts to overpower the Euphonium. The piece comes to a close with the Euphonium making one last statement before joining the band in a final flourish. This piece is dedicated to Hannah McAullife and the High Point Regional High School Concert Band.
